Bungarribee - Sydney Zoo Access Road

• Site stabilisation, excavation, soil and water management and protection of trees and boundaries
• Tree clearing erosion and sediment control, and flora and fauna protection works
• Internal roadworks, including supply and installation of the roadworks (roads 1 and 2) as per the design plans, with subgrade, vehicle edge barrier and pavement
• External Roadworks, as per the design plans, including subgrade and pavement, demolition of services, traffic light and sensor works, median island work, line marking, signage and all works per the plans and details.
• Supply and installation of stormwater, inlet pits, vegetated bioswale and subsoil drainage works
• New entry structure feature wall work/artwork, including structural footing, posts, signage graphics and bracing
• Works to existing brick entry structure, including construction of planter boxes, graffiti removal, gate works and restoration work

Delivering within a live transport corridor

Careful staging of the construction works was required, as the new entry road and intersection upgrade were delivered within a live traffic environment on the Great Western Highway.  Works were coordinated to maintain traffic flow while safely delivering internal and external roadworks, including pavement construction, traffic signals, and associated infrastructure. The use of both day and night shift operations also ensured minimal disruption to road users while meeting project timelines.

Incorporation of stakeholder design changes during delivery

Stakeholder-driven design changes during construction, including requests from RMS to accommodate future developments, were successfully integrated with minimal impact on the program. Delaney Civil’s proactive planning and flexible delivery approach ensured the project remained aligned with long-term infrastructure planning.

Complex delivery coordination

The project required the integration of civil, electrical, hydraulic, and landscape works across both internal and external stages. To accommodate road widening, existing services were carefully adjusted, with efficient coordination ensuring delivery across all disciplines with minimal disruption. Access for the Sydney Zoo contractor was also maintained at all times.
