Location
Murrumburrah NSW
Expertise

Design and construction works were required to restore the ponds after flooding damaged the region’s only sewage treatment plant.
Project Scope
- Remediation of the ponds, including rectification, armouring and revegetation
- Construction of spillways
- Creek realignment
- Replacement of hydraulic piping
- Relocation of the pump station shed, including the extension of the powerline along pond 4
- Obtaining the necessary NSW fisheries permits
- Installation of 50m of recycled water rising main (DN100 PE) under the creek bed
- Installation of 480m of fencing
- Replacement of the existing inlet of the recycled water pumping system with a one metre Turret (floating inlet)
- Design and installation of the inlet water pipeline used to feed Pond 4 from the creek, including the foot valve and strainer
- Earth Lock was used to stabilise the pond embankments
- Low flow pipes were replaced between the ponds, with new, wider and concrete-encased pipes
Key Challenges
Working in sensitive waterways to minimise potential future flood damage
200sqm of creek bank was realigned and straightened, minimising damage from future flood events and potential scouring of the rock banks. Low flow pipes were replaced between the ponds, with new wider and concrete encased pipes. To minimise the impact on the environment, our team utilised modern materials such as Earthlock. This product was flexible and simple to install, which allowed us to work safely near the waterways, with a more constructible solution that avoided needing to armour the banks with shotcrete.
Delivery of the project on time despite adverse weather events
There were a number of significant rain events throughout the project, which further scoured the pond banks and required the reallocation of resources and construction activities to keep the project progressing. Despite these challenges, we successfully delivered this project on time. This was achieved through the use of innovative solutions, such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and our fleet of in house plant and machinery which allowed us to self-perform the key works involved in this project.
Supporting the local economy through the use of local trades
A key focus of this project was to increase local capability and boost the local economy. A significant portion of the trades and the suppliers utilised on this project were engaged locally, with the local knowledge they provided making an immense contribution to successful project delivery.
