Key Challenges

Replacing an Ageing Structure That No Longer Met Community Needs

The existing bridge had become costly to maintain, and did not meet the long‑term access, safety, or capacity needs of the Lawrence community. We delivered a new 175‑metre two‑lane structure positioned 100 metres upstream, eliminating the safety risks and ongoing maintenance burden of the former timber bridge and ensuring reliable access for the region well into the future.

Realigning and Upgrading Key Road Approaches

Replacing the bridge required the realignment of surrounding roads to be integrated with the new structure. Our team completed major roadworks, including the upgrade of approximately 200 metres of the southern approach and 520 metres of the northern approach. This involved earthworks, drainage, erosion controls, service relocations, and intersection improvements.

Maintaining Access for Pedestrians, Cyclists, and Marine Users During Construction

As a vital corridor for residents, recreational users, and waterway traffic, construction needed to avoid disruption. We developed and implemented stringent traffic, pedestrian, and marine management plans to maintain access throughout the project. The new design includes a 2.5‑metre off‑road shared path, and works also incorporated modifications to the boat ramp and nearby park areas. This ensured the community remained safely connected during project delivery and beyond.
